Components of Senator Sherrod Brown's everyman public image include a canary pin he wears on his lapel, a symbol of the canaries coal miners used to take with them down into the mines to detect toxic gas before there were more robust safety regulations. Finding commonality with Judge Terri Jamison, he has endorsed her for Associate Justice on the Ohio Supreme Court in the race against Patrick F. Fischer, the Republican incumbent.
